"Transfixed" by Tarot

Tarot entered my life quietly, spontaneously. My stepdaughter and I visited one of our local metaphysical shops, Spiral Circle Bookstore and More. The store is super cute, and as a book and stationary nerd, I’m in my own little heaven. Add jewelry, crystals, stickers and an overall “fuck the patriarchy” feel and it’s my favorite store in Orlando, FL.

Buying my first tarot deck wasn’t on my to-do list that day (or any day, honestly). However, I had my tarot cards read once and it was fascinatingly spot on and I’ve been interested in tarot (and tarot card readers) ever since. I picked up the most basic Rider Waite Smith deck and intro to tarot book the staff suggested to me and set about learning the card meanings in the same manner I approach grad school. (In fact, most of the tools you’ll find on this site are prepared in a way that serves as study guides.)

What began as a casual curiosity quickly turned into a deep fascination, and before I knew it, I was utterly transfixed. This obsession with tarot—its artistry, symbolism, and potential—has added a layer of creativity to my life that didn’t exist before.

I’m transfixed by the...

  • Artwork

  • Weight of the cards

  • Coating on the paper

  • Rounded, often foiled, edges

  • Symbolism

  • Story the cards tell

  • And how the cards are connected to one another

Tarot cards introduce you to an infinite number of perspectives on your own life. Depending on the tarot deck you use, the cards you pull, the questions you ask, and your interpretation and intuition, practicing tarot engages a part of your mind that we don’t often exercise. That’s what transfixed me – it's endless.

Pulling a single card daily for fun and study turned into hours of research, journaling, and practice. I found myself thinking about the cards in my downtime, picturing them as I fell asleep, shuffling them as I partially listened in on Teams calls, and carrying a deck everywhere I went. The more I learned, the more I wanted to know. I devoured books, watched videos, and practiced spreads. Analyzing card meanings and connecting them to my life experiences, the tarot became more than just a deck of cards; it became a lens through which I could view the world and my place in it.

The Unique Perspective Tarot Offered

The cards became a mirror, reflecting truths I hadn’t yet acknowledged and guiding me toward personal growth. For me, tarot was never about predicting the future. It was about understanding the present and gaining clarity about the paths ahead. It taught me that the answers we seek are often already within us, waiting to be uncovered.

The Birth of Transfix Tarot

ree

Transfix Tarot was born out of that obsession, that connection to creativity I was lacking, and the way it shed light on my inner thoughts in a way straight journaling never had before. My goal is to share that connection with you.  As my relationship with tarot deepened, I realized I wanted to create a space to share this passion with others. The name captures precisely how I feel about tarot: it has a way of captivating the mind and spirit. Transfix Tarot isn’t just about the cards; it’s about the transformative power they hold and the unique ways they can inspire us.

Through this community and website, I aim to:

  • Help others discover tarot as a tool for self-reflection and growth.

  • Offer resources and insights to strengthen intuition.

  • Create a welcoming space to dispel myths and celebrate the art of tarot.

  • Share the joy and creativity that comes from exploring this practice.
